Must-See Photo Show

See that cute picture of Jimi Hendrix? Dan's sister Kim took that back when she started her photographic career. Sorry to say, you have missed the show's opening which was crammed full of Hollywood types - models, actors and artists, but you can still see the show at The Shooting Gallery in LA. If you can't make it to LA, you can visit her website:

Not to Brag or Anything...

Looking at the race results, I noticed that not only was Gwen 35th overall in the race of over 600 runners, she was faster than all 48 of the men in the military age group 18-24. Faster than ALL those macho men! Way to go, girl!

BHS Open House

I had to take a picture of Becky on the job because this is the most I got to see of her all week. She was taking her job very seriously, so didn't even have time to help me!
(Darrin worked hard, too)
My favorite teacher - I wish I could take her class - and I don't even like biology.

Another favorite teacher. He sends regards to Gwen and said he saw her running several times this summer which inspired him to run. Naturally I had to brag about her great race.

There are no Bad Dogs, Only Neglected Dogs

Just in time, I remembered how Cosmo "gets into things", so I put my special loaf of bread from La Vie en Rose Bakery behind the steering wheel before letting the dogs in the car. I thought I was so smart...

I had to go through an elaborate ruse to keep Cosmo, who has a bad leg, from joining the walk in the park. So when I came back...NO BREAD. Cosmo, do you know anything about this empty bread bag????

Trying Try Out

There are Mary and Hannah - right there - see them? They sat there for twelve hours! Out of all those people, they were next to the last! Mary was bored out of her mind and nets Good Mom Points for at least a year. Rob who stayed home with dogs, also deserves Good Dad Points. Either this is good news or bad news, but Hannah did not advance to the next round. They did complement her on her fantastic voice, but as we all know that is not the whole agenda there. Not to sound like sour grapes, but I read that the latest American Idol is performing at...THE PUYALLUP FAIR (whoop-dee-doo). We are proud of Hannah for giving it a go - how many of the rest of us have been that gutsy? Her future undoubtedly holds many more interesting opportunities.

nil per os

This if for the woman in the hospital bed next to my mom. Mom didn't want to eat any dinner (other than a few bites of chocolate pudding) because she thought she might need to be "NPO." I asked for a term definition and she said "nil per...os - nothing by mouth. The woman behind the curtain said "oh no, it means nothing pre op." I looked it up and my mom is right. So there!

Happy Birthday Dear Dan

Dan wished Daniel would send him more of those Dutch licorice balls for his birthday and lo and behold, he got some as a birthday gift - from Becky who had found a place in Poulsbo where you can buy them.

Volunteers

These two sweet hospital volunteers, Bev and Dottie, came to set up my mom's dinner menu. Unfortunately, due to her medications, nothing sounded good at all...until they mentioned she could get a milkshake. So she settled on toast and a chocolate milkshake for her dinner.

Exclusive Photos and Interview!

What local star is trying out for "American Idol"??
Q: Hannah, with your busy schedule, how do have time to practice and perform?
A: Practice? I sing all the time! Even at work! Perform? Did you hear about my performance at the Homecoming assembly? It went like this...

Q: As a student body officer and a dedicated student, are you concerned about missing school for the tryout?
A: Of course I am. I absolutely hate to miss any classes, and to avoid getting behind, I'm working ahead in Biology.

Q: What are you going to wear?
A: Hmm. Haven't decided yet.
Q: What are you going to sing?
A: Hmm. Haven't decided yet.
I think she's holding off on those answers for the next interview. Stay tuned for updates.

Half-Marathon

Gwen trained hard for her half-marathon and did really well!

She came in first in her age group, and 5th among all the women.

Good work, Gwen!

How does Mary keep her slim figure when not training for a marathon? A hearty breakfast is the secret.

Candles

Four Swallows put a candle in our favorite dessert to honor Becky's birthday.
In another attempt to set herself on fire, or perhaps simply her need to be in the center of everything, MewMew jumped on the table just as Becky blew out the candles.

France. We did everything fun back when Becky was 2, so she barely remembers it.

Tail on Fire

The latest animal emergency - Mew-mew got her tail on fire but is ok. She was on the counter bugging Becky for pets while pasta was cooking, and swished her tail into the burner flame. Becky put it out right away and we put cold water on it, but I don't think Mew-mew even noticed. Wouldn't that be ironic - after the expensive surgery she kills herself by catching on fire?
No photo.

my boss

He's the kind of boss who says, "Hey, let's go get ice cream!"
Do I really want to give up this job for one in Seattle?? No more meetings at Bainbridge Bakers??

New Blog Announcement

Blog headquarters wishes to announce the opening of a new subsidiary blog on one of our favorite topics - bicycles.
The blog is entitled, "Bicycles and their People" and is at http://bicyclesandtheirpeople.blogspot.com, or simply click on the link in the sidebar.

Poor Mew-mew

We thought she had gone the way of Tigger, and been eaten by a coyote, but she was hiding under Becky's bed with an infected abscess, apparently the result of a cat fight. The worst part is that she has to suffer the indignity of wearing a cone.

Dogs Everywhere

I did not make a detour to a vintner in Southern France or to an Italian Greyhound heaven, but to Lesley and Stuart's house in the Napa hills.
