Consumerism

How easily we can get sucked into thinking we need more gadgets in our kitchen. People right here on Bainbridge Island must think they need these specialized items in their kitchen.

First of all, peeling onions is such a hardship on the eyes, we need protective eyewear.

Then we need to buy these special cooking rubber bands.

And CORN! You can't just grab a cob and eat it.
You need corn holders, or a corn zipper

And everyone at the table better have their individual corn dish

and don't use your butter dish, you need a plastic yellow squeeze bottle for melted butter. And look, a corn cutter and creamer.

Graters. You need a different kind depending on what you are grating. Cheese, spices, chocolate, nuts etc.
Don't get them confused.

OK let's get serious. A piecrust tamper. Now that I think about it, how have I ever made pie crust without one??

In fact here are several pie making gadgets that I haven't used.

OK I did once buy cloth rolling pin covers, which are supposed to prevent the dough from sticking to the rolling pin. Well, it did do that, the dough stuck to the cover instead, then I had to wash the cover!
We would have less clutter in our kitchens if we kept things simple and used the basic tools, like hands and a knife.
Much easier to clean, too.
